I'd try If you're having problems starting Shogun 2 since the latest patch, here's what we recommend you try. We find this process resolves nearly all cases. Run the Visual C++ redist setup again. This can be found here: C: Program Files (x86) Steam steamapps common total war shogun 2 redist vcredist_x86.exe, or your equivalent directory (varies according to OS). Delete or rename your preferences script. This can be found by typing%appdata% in any navigation bar then hitting enter. Navigate to The Creative Assembly Shogun2 scripts and delete or rename the file preferences.script.txt 3.
Verify the integrity of your game cache. Right click on Shogun 2 and click Properties. Then navigate to the local files tab and click 'Verify integrity of game cache.' This ensures your version of Shogun 2 is exactly the same working version that appears on the server. Delete your Steam ClientRegistry.blob file.
This can be found in your Steam installation folder (for me it's C: Program Files (x86) Steam) We also urge you to ensure you have the latest drivers installed, particularly for your graphics card and soundcard. Shogun 2 uses recent drivers, so you'll need to be up to date. With any luck, one or more of those things will do the job and you'll be shooting arrows into faces before you know it. BUT before that I would update your windows to service pack 2 by going to windows update.
Also install all other missing critical updates + any recommended/optional updates that reference to compatibility/stability/performance fixes or DiretX,.NET Framework or Visual C++ software components. You have to reboot and repeat the process until no new items show up. Ok I'll try giving a detailed explanation. I was kinda in a rush last time. I first launch the game via steam.
It asks if I want to benchmark or play the game. I select play Shogun 2 and then it asks for direct X 9 or 11. I choose 11 but i've also tried 9 to no avail. It then loads the splash screen with the Total War logo and the copyright. I have played Shogun 2 before so I know it usually takes around 2 minutes to load but this time it doesnt load.
I see my normal mouse cursor turn into the 'ingame' cursor about a minute in but then after another minute I see that when I move my mouse across the splash screen it shows the normal mouse, as if there were a window under it. I ctrl+alt+delete and open task manager to see what it is and it says Shogun 2.exe has stopped working. I looked at the details and it said that the source was the Shogun2.dll. The game was working fine for me until this recent update in which it completely messed it up. I even tried reinstalling the game and nothing worked. I'd really like to play my game again. Still doesn't work Iscaran.
